Apigenin, a naturally occurring compound found in celery and parsley proven effective against aggressive breast cancer cells. This is the result of research conducted by experts from the University of Missouri. Apigenin was successfully shrink the tumor is stimulated by progestin, a synthetic hormone given to women to relieve menopause symptoms.
"This is the first study that addresses apigenin of celery, parsley, and some other vegetables that are effective against cancer cells induced by hormone therapy," said lead researcher Salman Huder, as quoted by Science Daily
In this study, a team of Hyder plant called deadly breast cancer cells BT-474 in the hybrid mice. Some rats were then given the MPA, a type of progestin that is often used by menopausal women. Mice and then treated with apigenin. The result, it shrank tumors in mice and the number of cancer cells decreased dramatically.
Unfortunately, scientists do not really understand how to work apigenin shrink cancer cells. Funds to conduct further research was recognized hard to come by because many consider that easily grown plants such as celery is considered not very significant in providing profit.
Nevertheless, the present invention creates a new expectation that the compound apigenin may be processed into materials chemotherapy drugs that have fewer negative impacts than some drugs that have been circulating.
